Fremont, California, January 30, 2024 — Optoplex today announced that it is upgrading the design of the 10Gbps Tunable ROSA for NGPON2 applications.

In March 2013, Optoplex first introduced a 10Gbps Tunable ROSA for NGPON2 after intenstive collaborations with several tier-1 telecom manufacturers. The product was successfully demonstrated in OFC2013 and later was field trialed by a major service provider. However, due to relatively high-cost and limited supplies of critical components, coupled with the relatively low-demand, the NGPON2 deployment has been on hold.
Recently, the rapid growing demands for higher bandwidths due to heavy-traffic applications, such as mobile-app videos, cloud data, and AI, etc., NGPON2 for FFTx are being re-considered for deployment. Comparing to XGS, NGPON2 offers higher bandwidths (4 wavelengths at the beginning, potentially 8 wavelengths in future), more flexibility in traffic management, better protections from rogue clients, compatibility with existing PON and upgradability for higher speeds in future.

With proprietary technology, Optoplex’s 10Gbps Tunable ROSA features high performance (-31dBm sensitivity), small form factor and low-cost. It is an ideal NGPON2 solution for FTTx.

In the upgrade design, Optoplex will fully integrate the 10G APD, TIA, and the tuning optics in a small TO-package, resulting in better performance and reliability. More importantly, the upgrade makes it more suitable for large volume production and therefore more cost-effective which is a MUST in FTTx applications.
