Technical Sales Engineer


Job Description

Optoplex is a leading optical solution provider for optical communications, fiber sensing and biomedical optics. The company is headquartered in Fremont, California, with operations in Taiwan, Shanghai, and Wuhan, China.

As a Technical Sales Engineer, you will be the front line technical resource working directly with customers to capture sales opportunities for our sales organization. You will be responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as a key technical advisor.  The Technical Sales Engineer must develop a deep technical understanding of our products and be able to communicate at both a business and technical level across all levels within the organization.

The selected candidate will have successfully demonstrated his/her ability to support a sales team selling advanced optical solutions for optical communications, optical fiber sensing, or biomedical optics applications. Key experience in a variety of optical communications, fiber sensing, spectroscopy, optical instrumentation, life-sciences and biomedical optics is important. This position reports to the Sales Director and will be based in Fremont, California.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential responsibilities of the Technical Sales Engineer are to work directly with customers to capture sales opportunities and to work effectively across functions within the company to support sales.  Primary areas of responsibility include:
  • Conduct market research, benchmarking, and product identification
  • Perform technical marketing and demonstrate Optoplex’s products and solutions to prospects and customers
  • Develop selling opportunities by growing relationships throughout all levels of an account. Utilize a consultative approach, discuss technical and business issues with prospects/customers and develop a formal plan and presentation addressing their needs.
  • Work with customers and internal technical team to define the products (requirements, specifications, time-to-market, …)
  • Provide technical support to customers
  • Create, manage and present product application notes, white papers and technical presentations
  • Provide or facilitate training opportunities for assigned accounts

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS degree in a technical discipline (optics, physics or engineering preferred) is required. An MS is preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of technical marketing, technical sales, sales, or PLM in high-tech industry. Direct experience in fiber optics, fiber sensing, life-sciences, and/or biomedical optics a plus.
  • Experience working in multi-site and multi-culture environments a plus
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Must be willing to travel (up to 25%)
  • Excellent phone, written, and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent technical presentation skills
  • Ability to work with customers and develop strong relationships
  • Has a strong and professional work ethic

Quality Manager


PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB

Assures consistent quality of production and well as product development by developing and enforcing quality policies, systems and procedures.

JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accomplishes quality assurance human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.

  • Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements; implementing change.

  • Meets quality assurance financial objectives by estimating requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

  • Develops quality assurance plans by conducting hazard analyses; identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures; monitoring inventories.

  • Validates quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes; measuring production; documenting evidence; determining operational and performance qualification; writing and updating quality assurance procedures.

  • Maintains and improves product quality by completing product, company, system, compliance, and surveillance audits; investigating customer complaints; collaborating with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs, and manufacturing and training methods.

  • Prepares quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations.

  • Updates job knowledge by studying trends in and developments in quality management; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

  • Others:Coordinating and working with oversea divisions, manufacturing factories and CM to enforce quality policies, systems and procedures implemented and compliant with the company’s requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • BA/MS in engineering or science or equivalent combination of technical educations
  • 3+-yr of QA experiences in fiber optics, or related industrial fields, with some management skills preferred
  • Knowledge and skills in QMS, QA methodology and tools, Strategic Planning, Process Improvement, Quality Engineering, etc. Experience with ISO 9001 a must
  • Ability and skills to deal with complex issues
  • Organizational skills in tracking projects
  • Good communication skills with ability to communicate cross-functionally and across management levels
  • Good team player
  • Computer skills such as Microsoft Offices

Director of Engineering


SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION

The Director of Engineering is a key driving force in product development and engineering. The Director of Engineering is responsible for implementing the company’s product development strategies, with focus to develop and execute sound, efficient strategies to drive product delivery, performance, quality and costs.

As the leader of engineering group, he/she will be responsible for building and maintaining a strong engineering organization to accomplish the company’s product development and engineering goals. The Director of Engineering reports to the VP of Engineering.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages the engineering group’s daily operation on all aspects
  • Spearheads the development of new technologies from proof of concept phase through production ramp
  • Leads the engineering team in product development, from product definition, create and manage development roadmap/schedule, product realization, verification and qualification
  • Creates and updates all engineering documents
  • Works with engineering NPI team for new production introduction

  • BS degree in science or engineering (optics, physics or EE preferred) is required. MS or PhD preferred
  • Min 10 years in product engineering, in fiber optics, lasers, optical engineering, or related industry (Min 8 years for a PhD)
  • At least 3-year experience in engineering management in high-tech industry, fiber optics industry preferred
  • Experience in engineering methodology, e.g., DOE
  • Experience in PLC management
  • Experience working in multi-site and multi-culture environment a plus
  • Ability to lead, motivate, coordinate and work with cross-functions or cross-departments
  • Hands-on and problem-solving skills; A key individual technical contributor

Technician – Wire Bonding


JOB RESPONSIBILITY

  • Operate manual and/or semi-automatic wire-bonders and/or die-bonders to perform wire-bonding/die-bonding for semiconductor optoelectronic devices in engineering development, including pilot manufacturing
  • Prepare samples
  • Perform high-speed optoelectronic device characterization using test equipment, such as Vector Network Analyzer (VNA)
  • Perform other optoelectronic test measurement involving equipment including optical spectral analyzer (OSA), tunable laser, oscilloscope, power meter, optical amplifier, etc.
  • Setup test and measurement stations; Perform regular maintenance and calibrations, etc.
  • Prepare test reports

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong hands-on experience in wire-bonding /die-bonding machine in operation and maintenance, such as West-Bond’s wire-bonders
  • Experience to work under microscope and semiconductor probe
  • Experience in semiconductor high-speed OE devices
  • Working Experience in clean-room and ESD environment
  • Experience in electrical and optical test & measurement systems
  • Hands-on skills a must

Principal Electrical Engineer


PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB

The Principal Engineer of Electrical Engineering serves as the technical specialist for the company in electrical engineering. He is a key technical leader within the company for technical and engineering in research and development, and product engineering. As a key individual technical contributor, the Principal Engineer suggests and recommends critical technical solutions to company products and projects. The Principal Engineer also plays a leading role in product and project management.

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY

Performs technical tasks independently with minimum administrative supervision. The Principal Engineer supervises a staff of engineers and technicians for specific projects and/or products within the engineering department. The principal engineer reports to the Director of Engineering.

JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As a key technical specialist in the company, make critical contributions to technology and product development in the company
  • Applies a thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering as related to electrical engineering in the company
  • Applies knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions
  • Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting the company’s technology and products, and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis of programs
  • Supervises a staff of engineers and technicians per management assignments
  • Plans, schedules, or coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects, or is responsible for an entire program within engineering department per assignment
  • Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures
  • Provide supports to customers on related technical and engineering issues
  • Represents the company and maintains liaison with individuals and related organizations
  • Leads project meetings and makes presentation

Particular Skills and Expertise

  • Experienced in FW and SW, particularly on electronic control board level
  • Experienced in Verilog, C++, programming
  • Experience in Analog and Digital design PCB from schematic, layout, simulation, verification, diagnosing, etc.
  • Experienced in MCU, such as ARM series
  • Experienced in FPGA
  • Experienced in various electrical interface, RS232, UART, DPRAM, USB, …,etc.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • BS, MS or PhD Degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent
  • 10+-year experience in electrical engineering, on HW and FW
  • Must have minimum of 5-year experience in Product Management
  • Must have minimum of 3-year experience in Engineering Management
  • Must be able to demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skill, as well as teamwork skill
  • Must have proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Bilingual is required due to job nature. Language Preferred: English & Chinese

Sr. Electrical Engineer


Responsibilities

  • Design the PCB and firmware for the high-speed, opto-electronic product.
  • Set up the calibration system to automatically calibrate the products in the manufacturing.
  • Design and manufacture computer-assisted high speed data acquisition and analysis system for manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • A master degree in electrical engineering
  • 5-year experience in Digital and Analog circuitry design, schematic and PCB layout
  • 5-year experience of FPGA, DSP and microprocessor embedded system design and firmware development
  • 3-year experience in optical and electrical system integration and automation software development
  • Familiar with Verilog, “C” and Labview programming
